China increases steel capacity of 15.5 million tons in H1

According to report, Chinese steelmakers have increased big volumes of new steelmaking capacity this first half year even though the domestic market remains weak.

There is about 15.49 million tons of capacity of steelmaking started for operation in January to June.

China's crude steel output rose about 2% year-on-year in the first five months of this year and the new capacity stands for about 1.7~1.8% rise.

However, according to China Metallurgical Industry Planning & Research Institute, China may cut the old steelmaking capacity by 48 million tons by 2015 as pervious planned.

In the new capacity, there are about at least 4.79 million tons of capacity in Jiangsu province.
